In the age of dematerialized media, we must take another step in the transformation libraries have begun in order to adapt to our interconnected world. This project reflects that evolution which, by greatly widening the library’s mission, has effectively invented a new kind of public facility—a distinctive, unique yet familiar place capable of advancing cultural and community roles through ambitious social and cultural projects.

Overlooking the Brest harbor, the Relecq-Kerhuon media library, designed by Loci Anima, unfolds like a contemporary lookout—a space of knowledge open to the horizon. Both an urban landmark and a cultural refuge, the building presents a gentle, integrated silhouette in harmony with the land and the unique light of Finistère.
The architecture draws inspiration from maritime lines and the movement of the wind. Spacious and filled with natural light, the volumes revolve around a central, plant-filled atrium. Wood, raw concrete, and transparency shape a calm and inviting environment, ideal for reading, gathering, and learning.
This media library is more than just a place to consult books—it is a vibrant, intergenerational, and flexible space, designed to host exhibitions, workshops, lectures, and community events. It opens generously to its surroundings with panoramic terraces, a gently sloped garden, and seamless integration with the urban fabric.
With this project, Loci Anima delivers a media library that reflects its region: open, luminous, and deeply human.
