Opera and Concert Hall on Nodeul Island, Seoul South Korea

The pro­ject for the Opera and Concert Hall on Nodeul Island in Seoul, desi­gned by the firm Loci Anima, is a bold pro­po­sal to trans­form an arti­fi­cial island on the Han River into a cultu­ral hub dedi­ca­ted to music in all its forms.

A poly­mor­phic music device
Named the ​“Polymorphic Music Device,” the pro­ject envi­sions a modu­lar com­plex capable of hos­ting clas­si­cal concerts, expe­ri­men­tal per­for­mances, popu­lar events, or inti­mate shows. The archi­tec­ture is based on a light, undu­la­ting canopy made of ten­sio­ned cables that pro­tects the entire struc­ture from the ele­ments while offe­ring a poe­tic pre­sence evo­king a ghostly ves­sel. This struc­ture allows for varia­tions in ambiance and den­sity depen­ding on pro­grams and sea­sons.

A sen­sory and immer­sive vision
Each space within the com­plex is desi­gned to evoke a par­ti­cu­lar sense: the opera with aci­dic colors, a buil­ding ins­pi­ring soft­ness, ano­ther the sweet taste, etc. This sen­sory approach aims to amplify the musi­cal expe­rience and create an immer­sive atmos­phere for the audience.

Although this pro­ject was not rea­li­zed, it demons­trates Loci Anima’s abi­lity to design inno­va­tive, poe­tic cultu­ral spaces in har­mony with their envi­ron­ment.
